on my self-portrait.
I would be happy for any suggestions on doing the hair, and any comments for improvement.

Joyce, NICE!!! I can now see your portrait! You have done a good job on this esp the eyes and smile (I like your expression).
On the hair, I see it is 'white' in the ref, you will need to go in and define the areas of darker value, no paper should show as white. Use directional lines and put in your values lightly and layer them pull areas out with a sharpended click eraser, kneaded, or blue tac.
There is an AP artist that has done well on blonde hair, look for the Stargate thread.
